BENTON COUNTY, Mo. A 4-year-old Missouri girl has been found dead after being attacked by two neighbors who claimed they wanted to remove a “demon” from her family, police say.
Ethan Mast, 35, and Kourtney Aumen, 21, are now facing second-degree murder and other charges following the discovery of the child’s body over the weekend at a home in Cole Camp, southeast of Kansas City.
“Based on what I know, I think this could be some kind of honest-to-goodness religious-type episode,” Benton County Sheriff Eric Knox told the Associated Press.
The suspects and the victimized family belonged to the same church, but Knox declined to name the church or its denomination, Fox News reported.

Ethan Mast, 35 and Kourtney Aumen, 21, were arrested on Monday in Cole Camp, Missouri, after the girl s father told the Benton County Sheriff s Office that the couple had beaten her and dumped her in a freezing pond.
The father, James Mast, said the couple beat his daughter over the course of two weeks and told him they would shoot him if he tried to intervene.

Deputies were called Sunday to a rural home near Lincoln and found the 4-year-old wrapped in a blanket.
A probable cause statement says she had severe bruising and blisters over her body.
Both Mast and Aumen, booked on Sunday at 1:30 a.m., were being held at the Benton County Jail with no bond. They were charged with 2nd degree murder, 1st degree assault and 1st degree sexual abuse.

DETROIT – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said she plans to seek sanctions against lawyers who filed lawsuits against the state s election results that contained “intentional misrepresentations” regarding Michigan s elections.
The Democratic attorney general also plans to pursue court costs and fees and, along with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, to file complaints with the attorney grievance commission, Nessel told reporters Tuesday.
The requests will likely be made after the cases have been closed out, she said.
“Some of these cases where we know for a fact there were intentional misrepresentations made – the kind of misrepresentation that there is no question of fact that these were inaccurate statements that were presented to the court – yes, myself and also Secretary Benson, will be filing complaints to the attorney grievance commission,” Nessel said.
