Erie County courts: District judge reinstates homicide charge

Erie Times-News A magisterial district judge has reinstated a criminal homicide charge that Erie police filed against a city man in a fatal shooting in late September and held the charge for court. Erie 3rd Ward District Judge Tom Carney recently reinstated the homicide charge against 22-year-old Tajh D. Easter that Carney had dismissed following Easter s preliminary hearing in mid-January after the Erie County District Attorney s Office filed a motion asking Carney to reconsider the decision. Easter is charged with 20-year-old Erie resident Duane E. Buckner III in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Dayquan Holloway and the wounding of another 25-year-old man at a residence in the 800 block of Walnut Street where a house party was taking place on Sept. 27. Buckner is also charged with homicide and other offenses and was held for court on all charges following the Jan. 14 preliminary hearing.

Erie men face trial in shooting; homicide charge dropped against one

A shooting at a west Erie house party in late September resulted in the death of one man and the wounding of another as at least four people fired gunshots inside and outside of a Walnut Street apartment house, according to testimony presented at a preliminary hearing on Thursday. Erie police initially charged two suspects with homicide in the case, but a magistrate at the hearing dismissed the homicide count against one of the two. Erie 3rd Ward District Judge Tom Carney agreed with a defense argument that the bullets police said were fired from the one defendant s gun did not match the caliber of the bullets recovered from the body of the homicide victim, 25-year-old Dayquan Holloway.
