The Mets lost Sunday’s game to Tampa Bay in which they also lost the entire series, Michael Conforto, and Jeff McNeil. Yeah, that’s a bit of a downer, but Pat Mazeika hit a home run so that’s neat at least.

When Luke Weaver took the mound in his last outing he faced a Cincinnati Reds team that was.well..Red Hot. Through 8 games they were averaging over 8 runs per game, and were batting .316/.388/.567
However utilizing just two pitches, his Four Seam Fastball and Changeup, Weaver dominated, taking a no hitter into the 7th inning. He ended up giving up just a single, a walk, and a HBP while striking out 8. The D-backs went on to win 7-0.
Speaking about the outing pitching coach Matt Herges said
“I was tearing up in the dugout..... I was overwhelmed with basically just thankfulness for him. He went out there with two pitches..he flat out executed. If you look at his heat map of that game it was beautiful. That night I sent it to him and said this is a thing of beauty. Hopes were high for today’s game. Luke Weaver was coming off the best outing of his Diamondbacks career and Nationals starter Eric Fedde came in with an ERA over 8.00. Since it was a day game and a lot of people might have missed this contest, I’ll go with the inning by inning recap style today

The game started off quietly enough. Following K’s from Tim Locastro and Kole Calhoun, Josh VanMeter reached second base on an error by center fielder Andrew Stephenson, but was stranded when David Peralta tapped out weakly to second base. Fedde threw 21 pitches in the inning.
Kershaw (2-1) struck out six with no walks in his first home start since winning his first title. The Dodgers’ longtime star barely came out ahead in the fourth career matchup between two of the greatest pitchers of their generation.
“I have a ton of respect for him and everything he’s done in this game,” Kershaw said of Scherzer. “You try not to attack it any differently. You always want to put zeros on the board. But after we got that early run, you want to make it stand up since Max probably isn’t going to be giving up many more runs.”
