Northwestern Qatar to host media innovation symposium

Doha: The short- and long-term implications of the COVID-19 on media and technology will be the subject of an upcoming symposium hosted by Northwestern Qatar’s Digital Advancements and Media Applications Lab (DAMA Lab).
The conference – Media Innovation Symposium: Responses to the Pandemic – will feature a series of panels with media experts who will address topics that include the digitization of sport, journalism in the digital age, and creative writing during the pandemic.
“This past year, the world had to move quickly to respond to restrictions imposed by the pandemic,” said manager of the DAMA Lab, Eric Espig.

Doha: Northwestern Qatar’s Media Innovation Lab (MIL) went under a transformation last semester and will now be known as the DAMA Lab ((Digital Advancement and Media Applications Lab).
Under the leadership of Eric Espig, it will build a community of designers, journalists, researchers, students, and educators that will work on experiments in storytelling and research, focusing on three primary areas of collaboration - creative space and open lab; collaborative course work; and research partnerships and sandbox.
According to Espig, the DAMA Lab will position itself to better support research and classwork at Northwestern Qatar so that it is “more connected in helping and sustaining digital and interactive projects that are happening throughout the Journalism, Communication, and Liberal Arts Programs.”
