Determined to make the most of his new lease on life after that near-death experience, Elias no longer procrastinates. “We cannot postpone the things that matter most to us in life, a hug, a forgiveness, an experience…My only original thought?” concludes Elias, “I collect bad wines. Because I drink my good ones.”

That’s the day a true miracle of piloting skill and luck came together as US Airways flight 1549 had a bird strike and made an emergency landing on the Hudson River with no loss of life. Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger was piloting the Airbus A320 when he hit a flock of geese just after takeoff for the flight to Charlotte. The plane lost both engines and Sullenberger and his co-pilot Jeff Skiles were able to essentially glide the plane onto the river’s surface and keep it floating until the passengers and crew could be rescued.

CEO claims in lawsuit his $16 million N C home is plagued by bad windows and doors

What kind of home can you get in Charlotte for $16 million? A big one, sure. But according to Charlotte businessman Ric Elias, it can come with a lot of bad — and pricey — fixtures. Elias, CEO and co-founder of Red Ventures, and his wife, Brenda, have gone to court to have the custom-made, steel-and-glass windows and doors replaced in their 24,500-square-foot south Charlotte home. If you throw in the full-sized, indoor basketball court, the home cost the couple more than $16 million to build, according to the lawsuit they filed in the Mecklenburg County courts. They are suing the house s Charlotte architect and builder, along with the California-based manufacturer of the doors and windows, to cover the replacement cost of what the lawsuit describes as expensive and faulty products.
