This weekly food festival is moving into Jersey City A weekly food festival is moving into Jersey City. Smorgasburg, an open air food market that started ten years ago in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, will be welcoming epicures to the new location in the Exchange Place neighborhood. According to NJ.com, the festival will run on Saturdays (from 11 AM til 6 PM) until October in a 40,000 square foot parking lot on Hudson Street. Founder Eric Demby told Eater New York that they are keeping the number of vendors small to begin; “Our vendors have been bereft of income for so long,” Demby says. “For any business to start back up right now is so emotional and risky financially that we want a low number of vendors to do really well. We don’t want anyone coming out and losing money.” So, the Jersey City iteration will be smaller than the ones in Williamsburg and Los Angeles, but both those markets are on hold due to COVID restrictions. A massive New York food festival is coming to N.J. Updated May 10, 2021; One of the world’s biggest food festivals is returning for the first time in more than two years. And it’s opening up shop in the Garden State. Smorgasburg, the massive weekly food festival that has previously operated only in New York and Los Angeles, will open in Jersey City on May 29, co-founder Eric Demby told Eater New York. A 40,000-square-foot parking lot at 195 Hudson Street in the city’s Exchange Place neighborhood will host the event, which will run every Saturday until at least October.

Smorgasburg Is Bringing an Outdoor Food Market to Jersey City

The popular outdoor food market, which started as a flea market in Williamsburg nearly 12 years ago, is preparing to open in Jersey City later this month, co-founder Eric Demby confirms. The expansion marks the company’s first location outside of New York City or Los Angeles, and first time operating in-person since fall 2019. The outdoor market will be based out of a 40,000-square-foot parking lot at 195 Hudson Street starting on May 29, and will operate every Saturday thereafter through at least October. The opening lineup will consist of 25 to 30 food vendors, according to Demby, a combination of businesses based in New Jersey and vendors that have previously appeared at Smorgasburg locations in New York City.
