Washington People: Eric W Carson – Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis

Matt Miller Eric W. Carson, MD, professor in the Department of Orthpaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, demonstrates suture technique to high school students last winter as part of the Perry Initiative, a mentorship program aimed at getting young women interested in orthopedics and engineering. While growing up in Boston’s inner city, Eric Carson didn’t think African Americans, like himself, could become physicians. But not only did he become a physician, he chose to work in orthopedics, a specialty noted for its lack of diversity. Carson, one of four children raised by a single mother, was bused along with his siblings to more affluent, predominantly white suburbs for elementary and high school. To fill their free time, his mother enrolled them in a variety of activities run by nonprofit organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

long this will last. it is actually not that rare. i m going to try and recall the percentage. around 33% of june we have seen rain. people tend to forget. last year was the second-highest rain total in june that we have ever seen. so this is nothing to read this is just a little bit of rain passing through. the bulk of us have seen the bulk of the rain right now. take a look at the high- definition doppler radar. the most consistent rainfall right now is over the south bay. moderate rain from san jose, campbell, heading south to los gatos. some of the heaviest rain is over the los gatos region and into the santa cruz mountains. that is where we will see the highest rain totals over the higher elevations. the rest of us looking at half an inch. here s what we have seen so far. just over two tenths of an inch. just over a 10th in redwood city. same for a word, not a whole lot, just a few hundred 7 in. for concord and san jose. not a whole lot of rain just yet. but we will li
