of a suspect in the drive-by killing of 7-year-old jasmine barnes. 20-year-old eric black jr. appeared in court today. he faces a capital murder charge. investigators say black confessed he was driving the vehicle, and he says a man in the passenger seat fired the fatal shot. jasmine was struck in the head during the shooting and died from her injury. police say they don t believe her family was the intended target. our kaylee hartung joins us now from houston where police just held a news conference a short time ago. did they say jasmine s murder was simply a case of mistaken identity? reporter: ana, sheriff gonzalez was very careful with his language when he spoke to us, saying they believe it s very likely this was a case of mistaken identity, that the shooter opened fire on jasmine s car, believing someone else was inside. who they believe to be inside, the sheriff couldn t tell us. but we learned more through eric black jr. s probable cause hearing this morning in which
passenger seat of and opened fire on the car that jazmine barnes and her family were in last sunday morning. this is believed to be a case of mistaken identity. these two men believed someone else to be on that car in that car when they started firing. now eric black is the one in court today, as we mentioned, charged with capital murder. he is the only one arrested and charged in connection with this murder. but we re learning that a second man, larry woodruff, as identified by the houston chronicle and others is also in custody. this man was pulled over in a traffic stop the day before yesterday. brought in on a possession of marijuana and other controlled substances. that is the charge he is being held on, but during his probable cause hearing yesterday, the state made the case for his bond to be higher than the typical $5,000 it would be for that charge saying that he is a suspect in a homicide and murder investigation. poppy and jim? this poor family here,
reports larry woodruff has been identified as a second suspect. he s not charged in the killing but is being held on drug possession charges. kaley hartung has more. reporter: authorities say jazmine barnes death is very likely a case of mistaken identity, that when a gunman opened fire on the car she was in he believed somebody else to be inside. we re told this investigation unraveled very quickly on friday. authorities had received a tip by way of activist shaun king. they then pulled eric black jr. over in a traffic stop, brought him in on a possession of marijuana charge, and once he started talking he eventually confessed to being the driver of the car in which another man sat in the passenger seat and pulled the trigger on the gun that shot and killed jazmine barnes. authorities say they are being very cautious in their language now as black is the only man who has been charged in relation to barnes murder. they say this is an ongoing investigation. when it comes to the disc
