The Congress on Wednesday said it was deeply saddened by the Supreme Court order to release AG Perarivalan, a convict in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, and said the apex court had exercised its power due to inaction of the government.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgement on the plea filed by AG Perarivalan, a convict serving life imprisonment in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, seeking premature release from jail based on the recommendation made by the Tamil Nadu government in September 2018.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday disagreed with the Central government s suggestion that the court should wait till the President s decision on the mercy plea of AG Perarivalan, one of the convicts serving life imprisonment in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
