defenceWeb Written by defenceWeb - Programme director Defence attaches and foreign military representatives Members of the media Ladies and gentlemen Welcome to the inaugural Aerospace and Defence Masterplan webinar. The subject of the future of the aerospace and defence industry has seldom been more relevant as defence budget cuts and the precarious situation at Denel have wide-reaching consequences for the sector as a whole. On top of this, the COVID-19 pandemic has strained the industry further. The need for a strong and healthy defence force is clear, especially as the coronavirus pandemic continues and an insurgency brews next door. As a possible third wave of the virus looms, the South African National Defence Force may once again be called in to assist with the state of national disaster, supporting the National Health Department, enforcing lockdown regulations, providing quarantine facilities, establishing roadblocks and testing and screening people.
