The government-commissioned Sewell report into “race and ethnic disparities” (which can be read at bit.ly/sewellreport) has been widely panned as minimising the reality of racism and racial disadvantage in the UK, and rightly so.
I don’t know to what extent the report reflects the honestly held views of the Sewell commission’s members, and to what extent they were just keen to ingratiate themselves with the Tory hierarchy and get ahead. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson s senior adviser on race is to resign amid the intense debate over Downing Street s controversial report on racial disparities in Britain, reported Xinhua, quoting local media on Thursday. Samuel Kasumu, Johnson s special adviser for civil society and communities, will leave his role in May and has informed colleagues of his decision on Wednesday, sources confirmed to British media. News of his departure emerged the day after the British government released a report which concluded that there was no evidence of institutional racism in Britain.

LONDON, April 1 (Xinhua) British Prime Minister Boris Johnson s senior adviser on race is to resign amid the intense debate over Downing Street s controversial report on racial disparities in Britain, local media reported Thursday.
Samuel Kasumu, Johnson s special adviser for civil society and communities, will leave his role in May and has informed colleagues of his decision on Wednesday, sources confirmed to British media.
The news came one day after the British government released the controversial report which is widely accused of trying to downplay structural racism in Britain.
But a Downing Street spokesperson said Kasumu s departure had been planning for several months and was not linked to the report by the government s Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities.
