Leo has etched its name in history as the highest-grossing Tamil film ever, crossing the milestone of Rs. 500 crore with a total of Rs. 529 crore, surpassing Jailer at Rs. 495 crore.
This marks the second time that a Vijay film has claimed the top spot in the list of top-grossing films at the Tamil Nadu box office, the first instance dating back to his 2004 release, Ghilli.
The Vijay starrer Leo crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark in Tamil Nadu yesterday, becoming only the second film ever to do so after Ponniyin Selvan Part 1.
Leo is now the second highest-grossing Kollywood film at overseas box office, sandwiched between two Rajinikanth films Jailer (USD 23.80 million) and 2.0 (USD 21.80 million).
Leo has earned another USD 19.75 million (Rs. 164.50 crore) overseas, for a worldwide box office total of Rs. 482 crore. It currently stands as the fourth highest-grossing Kollywood film worldwide.
