Monroe County to reopen permitting offices to public

The Monroe County government permitting offices will be replacing the permit dropoff/pickup and mail-in system with in-person permitting services, starting on Monday, April 12. The reopening will minimize permitting delays for building and other permits. COVID-19 precautions will be in place at all four permitting offices. Three of the offices have insufficient space and will be open with limits to maintain the Centers for Disease Control’s distancing guidelines, according to Monroe County spokeswoman Kristen Livengood. All customers must wear facial coverings in all offices. There are no restrictions on the number of permit applications a person can submit. Meetings with plans examiners, inspectors, planners and biologists will continue via phone, email and Zoom because of space limitations, so Livengood advises to plan appropriately. Sedgwick County Wants To Turn Your Old Christmas Tree Into Mulch

Sedgwick County is reminding residents that they can still recycle their used Christmas trees. The county’s Environmental Resources Department has set up 22 recycling sites across Wichita and Sedgwick County. The sites will remain open until Jan. 24. The trees will be ground into mulch. Residents can take mulch from any of the sites for free. Recycling the trees also keeps them out of the county landfill. People should remove ornaments. lights and other decorations from the trees before recycling them.
