In order to reduce emissions and fight climate change, the City of Winnipeg plans on transitioning its diesel transit fleet to zero emission electric in the coming decades. While several bus types, green-tech power systems, and infrastructure configurations are being studied by the public service, an eminent U.S. energy researcher suggests battery electric power might not be the best option for Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Sun, best-selling author and founder of Environmental Progress Michael Shellenberger said there are questions about whether electric vehicles will create a transportation revolution. He said hydrogen gas and fuel cell power systems could supplant petroleum and take the lead in vehicle power.
