Fiji Rice Limited has fully utilised the $150k set aside for the Rice Rehabilitation Program for farmers in the Northern Division following the devastation caused by TC Yasa.
Fiji Rice chairman Raj Sharma said the funds paid for land preparation.
“I’m quite pleased to say the maximum amount of money given has been fully used, which means 2000 acres of land has been prepared,” Mr Sharma said.
“An additional 1000 acres of land has also been prepared, I’m told and I must thank the Hon. Minister for Agriculture and the Attorney General. This was decided over the phone in five minutes, thank you very much Minister,” he added.

More than 200 families to benefit from dredging works in Namosi

More than 200 families in Namosi will benefit from the dredging works that will be conducted by two contractors at the Nabukavesi Wainadoi and Wainibuabua Rivers.
Minister for Waterways and Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy says they have awarded the contracts to Eastern Mechanical Contractor and China Yuan Group who will dredge a total of 17 kilometres in the 3 rivers.
Dr Reddy says this is conducted through their new model of collaboration with the private sector where it is a win-win situation for both parties.

GOVERNMENT has amended the Environment Management (Exempt Plastic Bags) Regulations 2021 to include the use of plastic bags by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and the Fiji Police Force.
Minister for Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy had authorised the amendment via a legal notice gazette dated March 12. “Pursuant to Section 45A(1)(a)(v) of the Environment Management Act 2005, the following bags are not included in the definition of plastic bags,” stated the legal notice. “Plastic bags used for medical purposes, including for the packaging or preserving of medicine and pharmaceutical products. “Plastic bags used by the Fiji Police Force for the storage of evidence or human remains.” Plastic bags used in agriculture are also exempted under the legal notice. These include plastic for planter bags, fertilise
