reporter: well, carol, i hate to sort of be a downer on this morning of pomp and circumstance here, but, no, the short answer is, no, it won t happen at least in the short term. the reality, as manu just said, there s a democrat in the white house, republicans now control congress, of course. so, in the short term, i don t expect a lot of bipartisan agreement. we re in the waning days of president obama s time in the white house. and do not expect any big deals, any big agreements to come in this final period. of course, this is happening in the middle of a raucous presidential candidate as we saw last night in the debate. paul ryan will have time to chart a course on his own. as the white house campaign works itself out here. i do think governing will be different. he s a very serious legislator. i do think he ll try and tackle some entitlement reforms. some of those things that really are breaking the budget here. so, he s a very, very serious legislator, 45 years old, the
they never happen. and all the spending is going to happen now. a.b., the point being raising this, not that ryan is going to lose that vote, but that the fact that these members felt compelled to signal that they were going to vote for somebody else, when it s a fate of come plea he is going to win. there is no ryan era without boehner did this week he would be the same numbers with a gun to his throat like boehner has been all these years. these protest votes when they know they can go home and say it wasn t their first choice but they had to vote for ryan the next day anyway is so indicative of the protest movement that rattles the house conference every g.o.p. conference every single day. the only way ryan can go on to entitlement reforms and tax reform hearings and bills is because all of the necessary legislation will be gone. all the must pass clips will be gone and he won t be having all the protests he had tonight.

left, progressives wanted more domestic welfare, they got it also. so both of them have increased spending. there is nothing fiscally conservative about this. bill: here is john boehner. clearly he disagrees. watch the speaker now. the agreement isn t perfect by any means but the alternative was a clean debt ceiling increase without any additional support for our troops, and without any entitlement reforms. so this is good deal for our troops, four our taxpayers and for the american people. bill: seems like this is as good as they can do right now, senator? it is a rotten deal. it stinks and i haven t met one republican outside of washington who thinks it is a good idea to give unlimited borrowing power to the president and to bust budget caps to spend more on the military, more on domestic spending. we don t have a strong country if we keep borrowing. if we go further, further into debt, we re making ourselves weaker and weaker. this is a disaster.
