Entertainment commission. For all of you that dont know me. My name is maggie weiland. And im the director of the Entertainment Commission. Nice to see high oh, thank you all so much nice to see all of your faces today. Although this is our 13th annual summit. This is actually our 20th year of being a City Department here in San Francisco. So this is a big year for us. Um i dont believe i see him in the audience. But i did want to thank terence alan today for all of you that know him. Yes so terrence was a founding commissioner on the Entertainment Commission, and he had the vision in the early oughts to create this department. Um and really, um, find a way to strike a balance and find compatibility between nightlife , venues, neighbors and law enforcement. So thank you to terrence. Hopefully he is watching this somewhere. One of the extraordinary phenomena of this pandemic has been the way that artists, administrators, advocates, companies and fans have come together to find new ways to support the performing arts after whole seasons were postponed, then postponed again, then postponed again indefinitely.
Even before the coronavirus outbreak, the United States lagged significantly behind other industrialized countries in per capita arts spending; COVID-19 only laid further bare how flimsy our support system for artists is.

San Francisco nightlife and entertainment venues that have been shuttered since the pandemic lockdown can finally apply for relief from the city’s Music and Entertainment Venue Recovery Fund starting Wednesday, April 21, through May 5.
San Francisco’s Office of Small Business plans to disburse the $3 million fund which came from the city’s surprise budget surplus equally among qualifying applicants, with each individual grant totaling at least $10,000. Venues can use the money for rent or mortgage, payroll, utilities, insurance and taxes.
