Hi. I am cory with San Francisco and were doing stay safe and were going to talk about what shelter in place or safe enough to stay in your home means. Were here at the urban center on Mission Street in San Francisco and joined by carla, the Deputy Director of spur and one of the persons who pushed this shelter in place and safe enough to stay concept and we want to talk about what it means and why its important to San Francisco. As you know the bay area as 63 chance of having a major earthquake and its serious and going to impact a lot of people and particularly people in San Francisco because we live on a major fault so what does this mean for us . Part of what it means is that potentially 25 of San Franciscos building stock will be uninhibit tabl and people cant stay in their homes after an earthquake. They may have to go to shelters or leave entirely and we dont want that to happen. We want a building stock to encourage them to stay in the homes and encourage them to stay and not r
Days of may as asianpacific heritage week. One year later, president jimmy carter signed into law a joint resolution to officially designate the annual celebration. 11 years later, president george bush extended the weeklong celebration to an entire month. You know and i know that our mothers say that every day is Asian Pacific american day. I want to recognize all of the milestones the api has made in the state of california and in the entire country. The caucus has a record of 42 members in the asian caucus in congress. One of their very first things we want to say is it was a young man who was the first member we want to make note of that. The reestablishment of the White House Initiative by president obama was another accomplishment. President obamas cabinets has dr. Steven chu. The very first asianamerican as ambassador to the republic of china. We have a lot of accomplishments. It was not that accident, my friends. Everyone of you know that you work hard. All these things are don
Canisters for those who need food for this season, also if you would join us in the weekend of december 15th and 16th, we are going to have family orientation outside with snow day here in city hall. We are bringing snow in again. And we are going to enjoy this with our snow day, december 15th and 16th, you are all welcome to come and bring the kids and all of the extended families. And if i may say again, these holidays and what the tree represent is the best hope and wishes. The holidays should never be about ourselves. What reminds us and what this tree will continue doing, is that you have to remember others that are less fortunate, and share our hearts and our minds and our resources with them. And it is just like japan, for what they have done. If you read the papers recently, you know, that japan suffered a very harsh earthquake and tsunami a while back. And they could have easily said, that we are victims of a national disaster. But, when the country heard that the debris was c
Campus, and i said its something that we should do and there was certainly overwhelming support for the campus, but characteristic of his style and his principles he was never afraid to question power, or to question the popular way, and he had many good points, and that was very typical of what i have known him to be as a servant at city college. It was very difficult in his position, often being the one vote out of seven, often finding rubber stamping of a decision, fighting the way we were spending our money for ten years. Ten years he was in a position most of the time alone trying to speak up and say why are we doing this . Were running the college into the ground. This shouldnt be the way things should be, and when i got into the board and i concluded the same thing and i said milton god bless you. I couldnt have been here for ten years and put up with this stuff. And he just laughed and smiled and thank god he had been there for the people of San Francisco for city college and m
Comment before this session. You did speak in that session. No i havent. President chiu my apologies. Anyway, i apologize for stepping into a comment in which i thought it was okay per the agenda, okay, so i can comment on any which thing thats brought up before the board. But were just here to speak on the issue of the sf mta. And the issues surrounding the sf mta, the budget, how everythings going over there. Now, one can say that prop g changed muni, depending on whose glasses youre using. Proposition a, you know, we just want to make sure that you, the Board Members, particularly the new Board Members when they do come in, really step up to the plate, and have the agency conduct business for the residents of this city like theyre supposed to be. No ones paying attention to prop a, transit first. No one. So when we take that into context, this system should be really yeah. Mr. Elsbernd brung up prop g but did it affect anything . I dont know. We have to look at those numbers today b
