because i think there is a way for all of us to move forward as a country, as long as we are honest about how we got here. the other thing that s happening is that there are students who are going to be denied education in this coming year who are already being denied education, and that s tragic. and we should really be openly talking, i think, about, you know, how horrific slavery was, but how offensive and historically inaccurate these remarks and this curriculum really is. just as an example, this idea that enslaved americans would have benefitted by gaining skills is obscene because of course what we know historically is that actually enslaved africans brought with them from africa skills that actually benefitted their enslavers, and helped build the country. so, for example, iron works, rice cultivation, folkways, food preparation, and so this is
american what happened in american history and say it was good. it wasn t. lynching wasn t good. red lining wasn t good. all the things that happened in america needs to be taught and children need to know the truth. absolutely. you have to wonder why the people who are passing these laws don t assume their children if they re white will not identify with the people who were heroic in history. their assume their children are going to identify with the enslavers so they re trying to make the enslavers look good. they re doing it because they want to raise a generation of people who will be conservative enough to give them their damn tax cuts. to give them the money they want and the deregulation they want and they re terrified of young people because young people already are woke. too late. florida state senator jones, thank you very much. thank you very much, my friend. still ahead, alabama republicans ignore a supreme court ruling to redraw their congressional map. disenfranchis
years ago. no joint bill passed from that and reparations again unaddressed. would you say the difference between those european countries and hours when it comes to this topic, how do you see the difference? well, interestingly enough, the un general assembly established a decade of african descent from 2015 to 2024 and so within this decade, the california reparations task force who have been working audibly to establish proposals for descendants of slaves, but then he also had institutions and formations like karen khan which a federation of caribbean asians and african union, who have been working together over recent years to demand respiratory justice from former colonizers, european counters and enslavers. in this historic decade, you
they see the king as someone who carries the heritage of the enslavers themselves. it was his ancestors, of course, who were also deeply involved, as head of the state, but also those who could benefit from the investments of the colonial regime. but we re also, of course, talking about reparations right now. and the government is, well, for the first time, i would say, also moving towards more financial reparations, but also taking care that it is something that is taken up in several sectors of society. and this could only happen through the push of activists who ve been lobbying and fighting for this recognition for decades. yeah, there was a report, a government funded report released
but behind that group, there was a larger group of, you know, just common citizens of several parts of the netherlands who had come in. i heard some people had already got up at 5am to hear the king speak. and many people were actually surprised and were really wanting to hear. they wanted to hear it, to believe it. and when he said it, you could really feel a wave of emotion going through the crowd. and people started clapping and cheering, and yeah, it was quite historical. what impact do you think it will actually have now? is it, although obviously words are important, will the reverberations go further than that? yeah. i think that s something we can answer in two ways. symbolically, i think it s very important for many descendants of enslaved people. they see the king as someone who carries the heritage of the enslavers themselves.
