Enniskillen s businesses mulling a judicial review of decision

A MEETING of prominent business people in the Enniskillen Hotel took place on Monday evening where they discussed last week’s decision by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Planning Committee to approve planning for the Lakelands Retail and Leisure Park at the old Unipork site on the Cornagrade Road. Retailers, solicitors, restaurateurs, hoteliers, estate agents and property developers were present for the discussion, with all sharing a common belief: that the decision was wrong and will have a huge effect on the Enniskillen town centre. Two SDLP councillors, Paul Blake and Adam Gannon, were also in attendance. Opinions and views about what the next step should be were aired, with the possibility of a judicial review being launched among them.

CORONAVIRUS: We are trying our best to create a Christmas spirit

AS BUSINESSES put in some last-minute preparations for reopening on Friday, Michael Cadden – of Pat’s Bar, in Enniskillen –admits it is not going to be a “normal Christmas”. While some hospitality venues are reopening, there are still plenty – such as ‘wet pubs’ – whose shutters will remain down most likely until 2021. Michael is urging the public who will venture out into the reopened businesses again in the lead-up to Christmas to be mindful and respectful of staff, who are just following the rules to ensure people are congregating in a safe environment. “Pat’s will be open in some guise over the weekend, probably not fully operational, but we are still waiting on the legislation,” explained Michael.
