Sponsored by state Rep. John Gillespie (R-Memphis), House Bill 2814 upgrades the penalty for street racing from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class E felony. Those arrested for the activity could face up to six years in prison and a fine up to $3,000, if the bill is signed into law.
