can go on past 2015. the last thing the administration wants to do is go back and ask congress to revisit the bill, change a little bit. they know they won t just settle for a little bit. it will be a wholesale rewrite that the house republican there s insist on so they want to do this unilaterally by themselves. are they going to get away with it? i don t think so. i mean, consider the way we re talking about this. they have turned this obamacare exercise into something that sounds like enlistments for world war ii. you show up at the enlistment office. you look healthy. you ll find out where we re going once we arrive. really. and this is really having i think a really bad effect on the reputation of the administration, its competence and credibility. the president s credibility. that s not going to go away by november of this year when you have those mid-term elections. this is put the democrats in a very, very tough spot and i
past 2015. dan, the last thing the administration wants to do is go back and ask congress to revisit the bill, change a little bit. they know they won t just settle for a little bit. there will be a wholesale rewrite the house republicans will insist on. they want to do this unilaterally by themselves. are they going to get away with it? i don t think they are going to get away with it. they turned this exercise into something that sounds like enlistments for world war ii. you show up, you look healthy, get on the ship, find out where we are going once we arrive. really. this is having a bad effect on the reputation of the administration, its competence and its credibility, the president s credibility. that is not going to go away by november of this year when you have those midterm elections.
mandatory enlistments. it s going to reduce costs. it s going to allow people with preconditions to get insurance. and it s the right thing to do. but from an economic and health point of view, it makes america fall in line with the rest of the industrial nations. and so it is sad that we don t hear from the religious community and say that this is morally the right thing to do for the poor, the good samaritan and all those things. but every state that the governors have said that this makes sense, there s florida, new york, california, it works. and with the tone being around trying to make sure that americans have access to affordable health care, while it s a good intention, it has been a heavy political lift and certainly the onus has been on members like yourself to get out there and talk to constituents about what this means for the country, for people individually. and i know you re on your break.
the bulge. you re a hero. you know that, right. doing my job. but these are no ordinary men. the rush of enlistments with the first sign of the american will to victory. i ran off from home when i was 15 years old. they said i was way too young. they said are you 17? no. get your mother s signature. i paid a bar maid 50 cents to sign my mother s signature. i was actually in pearl harbor when it was bombed. watching these airplanes. you saw the first one peel off and then the first bomb fell. the world war ii memorial site is massive. it s the size of a football field. here at the freedom wall of gold star, it commemorates the 400,000 americans who died and did not make it home. when you have lunch with these guys, you re with them, you go into combat with them, you go home and they don t.
we didn t know it was harmful. well, there goes their story. yep. we want to find out what was really going on behind the scenes. politics, convenience, deniability. i ve got 30 years over there. what went wrong with their plan to keep it quiet? they were just there was just too much of it. it got out of hand. you can only keep a secret for so long. the more people you involve in the secret, the more likely the secret s going to get out. the marine corps did not want an investigation. they did not want a health study. so how do you prevent that? you hide and conceal the truth. you know, there s a lot of people out there suffering that need health care. all these military people who didn t stay in and retire, who did one or two enlistments and got out, they re at the mercy of the public health system. we need to bring this issue up publicly.
