Updated: 12:52 PM EDT May 1, 2021 People who are planning to travel to and from Cape Cod should give themselves some extra time to do so, as lanes are limited one of two main bridges that connect the peninsula to mainland Massachusetts.Traffic on the Bourne Bridge is reduced from two travel lanes in each direction to one 12-foot lane in each direction for the foreseeable future, as repairs to the bridge s structural steel supports and lighting system began Saturday.The lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day until the repairs are complete, which should be before Memorial Day weekend, according to the New England District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.The Army Corps of Engineers says the Bourne Bridge repairs were supposed to begin in the fall. But that the work was started early after similar repairs on the Sagamore Bridge the other main bridge between Cape Cod and the mainland were finished last Sunday, which was far ahead of schedule.
