The main Opposition party, the breakaway UNP faction, Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) yesterday (30) said that all available information and evidence relating to Sri Lanka’s war against terrorism should be made available to the proposed special unit to be formed for the implementation of an accountability resolution adopted at the recently concluded Geneva-based United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
SJB lawmaker Dr. Harsha de Silva said so when The Island asked him whether his party backed the government’s call for the UK to make available wartime (January-May 2009) dispatches from its High Commission in Colombo to the proposed special unit.

The United States and its allies would not halt their attempts to secure a foothold in Sri Lanka although the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact had been discontinued and that the decision was a strategic one to lull Sri Lankan public into complacency, professional and civil society organizations yesterday warned.
General Secretary of the Professionals’ National Front (PNF), Engineer Kapila Perera said that the MCC compact was not a grant, but a part of the Indo-Pacific strategy pushed by the US and India.
Perera said: “The MCC is part of their strategy to use Sri Lanka and other nations for military and strategic purposes.

One hundred and sixty seven persons, including Attorney General Dappula de Livera, were subjected to PCR tests on Wednesday as two persons present at a recent event they attended tested positive for COVID-19.
Deputy Director of Health Services – Vavuniya, S. Mahendran said the test results came on Thursday night and none of them had contracted COVID-19.
A large number of people including state officials attended the opening of a new AG’s Department building in Irattaperiyakulam, Vavuniya on Dec 10 .
AG de Livera was the Chief Guest at the event. Later, it was found that a lawyer and a policeman in attendance had contracted COVID-19. Those who attended were placed under self-quarantine and subjected to PCR testing.
