enforcement provisions, protections for drug manufacturers on patents and the like. the democrats were able to get their wish list on a couple of those things. the president was able to get a big win on u.s. dairy opening the canadian market for u.s. partners. that s something the president really wanted. what nancy pelosi also gets, they can go home and say we re not just trying to shut down this president. we re helping get stuff done including a better nafta. that s so crucial. because heading into re-election, part of donald trump s argument is the do nothing democrats aren t helping you even when there s a deal that would benefit a lot of workers in these mid western swing states. the democrats can say we delivered it. politico was reporting this morning it s not divorced at all from impeachment. that at this point what nancy pelosi is trying to do is have the full house vote on kpeech impeachment on tuesday or wednesday and then do the trade deal after so the last thing these
the new nafta deal was held up because held up until, essentially, speaker pelosi felt that she couldn t maybe help out vulnerable democrats without bringing this forward at the same time as announcing impeachment. completely baseless. so, the reason that we re bringing the usmca up now is because we just got agreement from major stakeholders, including the afl-cio, that finally, this week, said, okay, the enforcement provisions are sufficient to protect american workers. that s why we re bringing that forward. number two, we re not going for impeachment because we think it s popular. we re going for impeachment because we think it s necessary. that it s necessary it s a greater danger to leave this president in office than it is to remove him. and so, you know, that s a decision that the senate will have to make, but there s plenty
written on. we believe that the agreement that has been drafted, usmca, is an improvement, but it s only an improve fmt you can enforce it if the provisions that make it better than be enforced on behalf of labor, on behalf of the environment, on behalf of its contents. there has not been an enforceable action under nafta in over two decades. as a result, we have been asking the administration and, unfortunately, it s my understanding that mexico at this point in time is reluctant to agree to enforceable provisions. if they re not enforceable, then signing a paper pretending it s a document that will move us forward, we don t think is appropriate. but we want to have a vote on usmca. i m hopeful that we can reach agreement and get the enforcement provisions that we need. we ve discussed it with mr. trudeau of canada. i think he will be in agreement. i would hope that mexico would also agree and we can get that
three countries can t sign off on an agreement as soon as this week. negotiators say they are close. this is something that democrats do want to do. they have been holding out for more enforcement provisions to make sure that all of the provisions of the new labor deal are executed properly and as we ve seen impeachment go on we ve seen the president get louder and louder about the democrats inaction on usmca but now democrats say they are waiting for the administration to fine-tune a couple of things and they might be able to get that as early as this week. i feel like it is close for a while. everything is close for a while. we ve talked about iowa. i want to pitch forward and talk about how what we could on the ace pate in the future. one of the things is to anticipate a roller coaster ride from here to the caucus. i looked back at the clear politics numbers in the course of the year in the top two people back in march it was biden and sanders who were the top two and in septemb
