Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says there are concerns of price spikes after it was announced the Yallourn power station in Victoria will be closed five years earlier than planned.
Energy Australia has announced the plant - which produces 22 per cent of Victoria’s power - will close in 2028.
There was an 85 per cent spike in prices after the closure of the Hazelwood power station in Victoria back in 2017, according to Mr Clennell
NSW Energy Minster Matt Kean told Sky News there would be price spikes and a “less reliable system” due to the early closure.
