Government representatives from Poland, Denmark and Norway have opened the new Baltic Pipe, a pipeline which will take natural gas from Norway via Denmark to Poland.
Independent energy expert and assurance provider DNV will work with Denmark’s national transmission system operator electricity and gas, Energinet TSO (Energinet), to advance the country’s Power to X (PtX) ‘green deal’ projects.
To compensate for lost Russian imports, Poland is quadrupling its gas import capacity with a pipeline from Norway and an LNG terminal. It could soon be able to help out Berlin scrambling to replace its own Russian gas.
Energinet and Gasunie have published a technical pre-feasibility study for transporting hydrogen via a 350-450 km pipeline from Esbjerg or Holstebro in Denmark to Hamburg in Germany. The study shows that such a connection can be established in a step-by-step and cost efficient fashion by repurposing existing gas pipelines.
