民心相通，诗歌为媒。在辽宁营口，不知从什么途径，一名叫雷锋的解放军战士读到了这首诗，被深深吸引，他在日记中摘抄了这首诗。 1962年，雷锋因公殉职。1963年1月20日，《前进报》摘录发表32篇雷锋日记，这首诗被当成了雷锋的日记发表出来。雷锋共对诗进行了三处修改：原诗中的“母亲只能生我身”改成“母亲只生了我的身”；“党号召我们闹革命”改为“共产党号召我闹革命”；删除了诗中的最后四句。《前进报》刊登这首诗后，多家报纸也做了转载。在毛主席“向雷锋同志学习”题词的号召下，举国掀起学雷锋高潮。雷锋日记里的这首诗引起上海歌舞剧院朱践耳的注意。雷锋的事迹深深地感动了这位曾加入新四军前线剧团、从苏联留学归来的音乐家。为了纪念雷锋，朱践耳决定把这首“雷锋遗诗”谱曲成歌，以便传唱。受这首诗氛
