Drug shipments involving large quantities of hashish and various kinds of narcotics go through a long journey. The shipments depart from Hezbollah’s areas of influence in Lebanon and enter Syria to reach As-Suwayda, southern Syria, near Jordan. These shipments finally arrive at their terminal locations to be delivered to drug dealers in Jordan or seized by the Jordanian security forces.
Enab Baladi did supplementary research to find out who are the parties involved in drug trafficking activities and how smuggling is carried out on the Syrian lands.

Less than two months before Syria’s presidential elections, scheduled to be held in April, the Syrian regime has accelerated a number of measures to calm tensions prevailing in the southern part of Syria, including As-Suwayda and Daraa.
This raises several questions about the method the Syrian regime adopts when governing the two regions of southern Syria, as well as whether the Syrian regime is at all concerned with improving voters’ deteriorating living conditions, where 90 percent of voters live below the poverty line.

Recently, social media networks have been buzzing with the Syrian Trade Establishment (STE) name, which is linked to the Syrian government.
Social media users, including merchants and citizens, have been complaining and criticizing the STE’s work and procedures.
The latest wave of criticism occurred in Damascus on 13 December 2020, when the Butchers’ Association demanded that the prices of meat be raised in the butcher shops to match the increase in meat prices sold at the stores of the Ministry of Internal Trade-linked STE.
