For over 20 years roots music fans have gathered annually in downtown Bristol Tennessee/Virginia to celebrate its musical heritage as the birthplace of country music. This weekend’s festival will feature a special presentation by another organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of the region’s music.
ELIZABETHTON â This Saturdayâs Covered Bridge Jam in the Covered Bridge Park in downtown Elizabethton will feature The Empty Bottle String Band.
The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department said the band âspecializes in playing toe-tapping, highly danceable traditional Appalachian music. They are known for their upbeat tunes and feel-good music.
âTheir impressive stage presence is coupled with a delightfully self-effacing strength and confidence in their music,â the department said. âTheir sound is inventive, while still staying close to the old-time string band tradition of the 1930s. They have become a festival favorite wherever they go and are one of East Tennesseeâs most popular old-time groups.â
