The Ghana Health Service, in collaboration with the United Nations (UN) in Ghana, launched the COVID-19 vaccination programme in Accra yesterday (March 2, 2021).
This opens the gates for qualified members of the public to step forward and take the vaccine, a preventive measure to complement the safety protocols against the spread of COVID-19 and also reduce the rate of deaths.
Day one data
A total of 3,321 people took the COVID-19 vaccination when the exercise started yesterday.
Health workers topped the number of those vaccinated with 1,928, followed by members of the security services with 443, traders at 323, with members of the Executive arm of government following in fourth place with 198.

Dr Kissi outlines agenda for Anyaa Sowutuom as he takes over from Ayorkor Botchway
Newly-elected Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom in the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has said although the makeup of the 8th Parliament could present a challenge in delivering on his plans for his constituents, he will spare no effort to bring development.
Former MP for the area, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway voluntarily stepped down from the NPP parliamentary primaries in June this year after 16 years as an MP, paving the way for Dr. Kissi, Emmanuel Tobbin, Edna Patricia Sackey, and Nana Ama Asafo, and Emmanuel Lamptey to contest the seat.
Ga Central Municipal Assembly supports PWDs
The Ga Central Municipal Assembly has supported about 40 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to enhance their living standards. The support includes the donation of industrial sewing machine, knitting machine, deep freezers, furniture spraying machine, popcorn machine and cylinder, oven and cylinder, shoe making machine with others receiving undisclosed cash. The items and cash provisions were made possible from the three percent Disability Fund of the Assembly’s Common Fund. Dr Emmanuel Lamptey, the Municipal Chief Executive in an address at the presentation said the provision of the support by the Assembly showed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s good intention of promoting businesses and artisanship within the municipality.
