britain s domination in the women s kl2 finals at the para canoe world championships continues, thanks to paralympic champion charlotte henshaw. she won today s final in just over 48 seconds for her fifth gold in the event and her eighth world title overall. it was a british one two, with emma wiggs, taking silver. gb have won gold and silver at the last eight editions. i caught up with charlotte henshaw earlier. i started by asking her how she is feeling. i m pretty sore at the moment, actually, it has not been long since i raced. immensely happy to win another world championship gold medal and more importantly, secure the slot for that event for the paralympic games next year. that was myjob coming in, the team all have jobs this week and that was mine. this is absolutely the first step on the ladder towards the paralympic games. we can t be selected if we don t have the quota spots come next spring.
but it would mean the absolute world, when i was ten years old i met a paralympic gold medallist and i knew it was what i wanted to do some day. so, to still be competing with the best in the world at the ripe old age of 36 having not known that my career would last this long, i feel immensely thankful and really privileged to still be able to do it and having had the career i ve had so far. how special was it, charlotte, that it was a british 1 2 with emma wiggs in silver? yeah, emma and i have been racing each other since i came overfrom swimming in 2017, it was. thankfully, every major championship we have managed to get either one of us on the top spot step of the podium. the other in the silver medal position. we re immensely proud of that
