The last time the members of the Moffat County High School drama program were ready for showtime, society was just about to get very used to wearing masks. This time around, the local young thespians will be donning a more classic facial gear: comedy and tragedy.
The Bulldog theater program comes back with a flair this week with the premiere of “Saving the Greeks: One Tragedy at a Time,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well as a 1:30 p.m. Saturday matinee at the MCHS auditorium, 900 Finley Lane.
Admission is $7 per person.
The stage play by Jason Pizzarello focuses on hapless heroes Dialysis and Peon (Jessica Womble, Nevaeh Allen) as they navigate familiar premises and personalities within the world of ancient Greek theater and mythology.
Back in the pool for the first time since Jan. 30, the Moffat County High School girls’ swim team made the trip to Glenwood Springs Saturday to compete in the GSHS Demon Meet against Glenwood, Gunnison, Grand Junction and Summit Saturday.
In the Demon Meet, Moffat County competed in nine of the 12 events, finishing fifth overall in the meet.
The first event the Bulldogs finished in was the 200-yard Medley Relay, in which the team of sophomore Katie Lockwood, junior Anna Cooper, freshman Amanda Dietrich and sophomore Sarah Johnson finished seventh overall with a time of 2:20.40. The Bulldogs also had another team in the 200-yard Medley Relay, made up of senior Tiana Nichols, sophomore Nora Gianinetti, senior Allison Jacobson, and freshman Emma Fritz. The relay team placed 11th overall with a time of 2:46:89.
On the road Saturday, Jan. 30 to open up its condensed Season B season, the Moffat County Bulldogs’ girls swimming team turned in a third-place performance against Summit and Glenwood Springs, scoring 250 team points.
The Bulldogs competed in 10 of a possible 12 events in the pool Saturday under head coach Melany Neton.
Against the Demons of Glenwood and Tigers of Summit, Moffat County saw the 200-yard freestyle relay team turn in the best performance of the day, as the relay team of senior Ellina Jones, freshman Megan Neton, senior Kelsey McDiffet, and senior Alexa Neton clock a time of 2:04.82, finishing behind two Glenwood teams with just 11 seconds separating them from first place.
