To make women feel safer on our streets, it s time for men to change their behaviour
The Sarah Everard case has prompted an all-too-common strand of victim blaming, but men must look at their own conduct too

Growing up as a young man, I struggle to recall a single instance where I was told that, just by walking on a street, I might be perceived as a threat.
The women around me, however, were constantly bombarded with information: don’t walk alone at night; don’t wear revealing clothing; stick to brightly lit roads; don t wear headphones; carry your keys between your fingers, just in case. As a teenager, I didn’t question why I wasn’t being educated, too; that strikes me as wrong.
