What is Jordan Independence Day?
On this day 75 years ago, British control over Jordan ended and it was declared a Kingdom in its own right.
It came after the London treaty was signed by Emir Abdullah and the British government.
This day is used to honour the sacrifices made in the past that allowed Jordan to become independent.
It is also used to recognise the future generations of Jordanians.

In Europe, especially in the territories of the Russian empire, Jews had been repeatedly victimized by pogroms whipped up by anti-Semitic agitators. Surely, that would not be their fate in their historic homeland, where, only a few years earlier, Great Britain then the greatest power on Earth had pledged to assist them in reconstructing a national home for the Jewish people.

Last week, Jordan celebrated the centennial of its establishment. Despite watered-down ceremonies due to the pandemic and despite a recent rift within the Hashemite Royal Court Jordan has every right to celebrate and be proud.
