Longtime Devon resident John Fairhead announced his intention to run for mayor in October 2021.
Fairhead retired and moved to Devon in 2009, but quickly got back in the game and established Fairhead and Associates, working on oil and gas, and electrical projects with a focus on energy efficiency.

“Since I’ve been in Devon I like to be active in the community,” he said. “With my background, I think I should have something to offer.”
Fairhead added that over the years, many of his colleagues and fellow community members have asked him when he will run for mayor, believing him to be a prime candidate based on his service and involvement in various community organizations and businesses.

At the virtual meeting of council on May 10, 2021, Devon town council discussed the reopening of the Devon Community Pool in 2021.
Council received a report on the Devon Community Pool’s opening plan for 2021. The Devon pool remained closed last season, and town administration has continued to navigate the changing COVID-19 restrictions to ensure it can safely open for use this summer.

This year, the pool will be switching to private bookings and swim times, to ensure the safety of swimmers and staff and adhere to public health guidelines while keeping the pool open for business.

The Government of Alberta announced additional grants for small businesses affected by provincial public health orders last week.
Small businesses in Alberta affected by COVID-19 restrictions can qualify for an additional payment of up to $10,000 from the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant. Businesses who qualified for previous grant payments can also apply for this additional funding, receiving up to $30,000 in total support.

“It’s really nice to see more support for the small and local businesses. Every little penny will help them get through this time,” commented Tanner Routh, economic development officer for the Town of Devon. “[The town] is also working with our businesses to be as flexible as we can.”
