bp has posted bumper profits for the second quarter of the year it is the second highest quarterly profit in bps history: 8.45 billion dollars three times what they posted lastjuly. on top of 6.3 billion dollars in profit in the first quarter of the year. the argument goes that aside from paying more in tax, the company is going to invest that profit in british jobs and low carbon energy. but emily gosden. energy editor for the times says so far they have spent 3.5 billion dollars this quarter on a share buy back scheme. a billion dollars more than it plans to spend this entire year on renewable alternatives. in fact so far it s only spent 361 million dollars on those cleaner solutions. and all of this on the back of new forecasts out today on what the cost of heating your home will be this winter. the average price cap will rise from £1138 in april last year to £3358 in october, and £3730 by the summer of 2023. which, miles, is going to leave millions of people in fuel poverty?
