Local activists, police reflect on Chauvin verdict

A just verdict Following Floyd s death, all three departments, as well as town select boards, issued statements decrying Floyd s death and the actions of Chauvin and other officers at the scene. Chelmsford Police Chief James Spinney who spoke at a vigil last summer said, My reaction to the verdict is that I think it s just.I personally was appalled at what happened, and my feeling is the Police Department was appalled and disgusted.   Spinney gave a presentation at a recent meeting of the town s Diversity, Racial Equity and Inclusion Committee, founded after Floyd s death. Spinney said, We ve been working on modifications for years, including de-escalation tactics.
