In a year beset with bad news for much of the fashion retail industry, the UK experienced a drop in the number of newly appointed female retail CEOs in 2020. Headhunter firm Korn Ferry s annual CEO Tracker found that just eight female bosses were hired in the retail industry last year. This was down from the 11 hired in 2019, and the report found no material improvement in the number of female CEOs appointed in the last five years.

A month after the UK left the EU’s single market and customs union, British SMEs are still working out whether they can afford to maintain once-thriving export businesses with the bloc. For those which decide to continue, it is often at the cost of jobs in the UK as they move operations across the channel.
