A rush to dump private health insurance amidst the coronavirus pandemic has prompted many providers to contemplate how to redefine their offerings to become more relevant to their members.
The proportion of Australians with private hospital cover was just 44 per cent in March of last year – the lowest since 2007. And that number is almost certain to have fallen since then, with many people electing to drop their cover after experiencing financial hardship caused by the COVID-19-induced economic recession.
