Protests were held in two Yukon communities Monday calling for urgent action to protect Indigenous women from violence.
The protests, in Watson Lake and Whitehorse, were in response to an alleged assault on Ashley Magun, an Indigenous woman, in Watson Lake last summer.
The man accused, David Kotchea of Watson Lake, was scheduled to be at a preliminary hearing for the case in territorial court on Monday.
He faces five charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, one count of break-and-enter and two counts of failing to comply with a promise to appear. He was also scheduled to enter a plea on one count of breaching probation.
