A Bright Flare from Star Proxima Centauri

Center for Astrophysics A Hubble image of the M-dwarf star Proxima Centauri, our closest stellar neighbor about four light-years away. Proxima hosts two planets, and is known to actively flare. Astronomers studying the suitability for life evolving on exoplanets around M-dwarf stars have completed a multi-wavelength analysis of an extreme flare on Proxima Cen. Hubble/ ESA/NAS The prospects for life around low-mass, cool M-type stars have been extensively discussed because these stars are the most common ones in the galaxy, and they frequently host Earth-sized planets in their habitable zones (orbits where the surface temperatures can support liquid water). Unfortunately for the prospects of life, however, these stars also exhibit higher levels of stellar activity and flaring than do more massive, solar-type stars, and flares can gradually deplete a planet’s atmosphere of molecules needed for life. Moreover, these hostile conditions persist in some fashion throughout their lifeti

Mysterious blobs of radio emissions found floating in space

https://www.hangthecensors.com/479955.html (Natural News) Astronomers are scratching their heads over ghostly blobs of radio emissions found floating in space last year. Ray Norris of Western Sydney University said that the mysterious blobs, which were dubbed “odd radio circles” (ORCs), weren’t quite like anything known before. “[We ran] through all the possibilities and conclude these enigmatic blobs don’t look like anything we already know about,” wrote Norris in the  Conversation. The discovery of odd radio circles Norris’ colleague, Anna Kapinska of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in West Virginia, spotted the first known blob while browsing new images taken using the Australian Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) telescope. Kapinska presented her finding during a presentation for the Evolutionary Map of the Universe, a project led by Norris that will image the faintest radio galaxies.

You ve Never Seen The Moon Like This Before, But It s a Real Image

You ve Never Seen The Moon Like This Before, But It s a Real Image 11 DECEMBER 2020 Blue Moon. Strawberry Moon. Supermoon. Snow Moon. Blood Moon. Earth s favourite satellite buddy has a name for every occasion. Yet the most glorious view of the full Moon we ve seen to date has no name.   That s probably because it s not indicative of an occasion, but a way of looking at our satellite. With your naked eyes, you would never see the rainbowy, soap-bubble-like view of the Moon as pictured above. But that s what it looks like to the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), an incredibly powerful radio telescope array located in the desert of Western Australia.
