Base reported seeing people with long guns on campus, reported an active shooter situation. Well, we now know that it was a misunderstanding. There was an active Shooter Drill that was scheduled for this morning inside that medical facility, its been scheduled for some time, but obviously not everybody on base received word of that drill, including the person that placed that phone call. However, out of an abundance of caution until they sorted things out, the base was put on lockdown. So they had this drilled scheduled. But then got what they called a real world warning. Out of an abundance of caution, they followed their protocols for an active shooter until they could sort things out and figure out exactly what happened. History was made today when the Defense Department lifted one of the last bans on service in the armed forces. Transgender people will now be allowed to serve openly, and they will be eligible for any medically necessary care, including surgery. David martin is at the pentagon tonight. Reporter transgender people were the last Service Members who could be kicked out not for something they had done, but simply because of who they were. Defense secretary carter ended that today. Effective immediately, Transgender Americans may serve openly, and they can no longer be discharged or otherwise separated from the military just for being transgender.
