​Minister for Emergency Services opens state-of-the-art volunteer fire station New station can be used as an incident control centre during major emergencies A new $1.7 million volunteer fire station, which has the capacity to act as an incident control centre during major operations, has been officially opened in Bedfordale. Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby today joined Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM and City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield to open the station, which will enhance training opportunities for the Bedfordale Bush Fire Brigade as it prepares for the next bushfire season. Located on Admiral Road, the new station features four vehicle bays and improved training and communications facilities, and has been future-proofed to cater for growing personnel numbers and additional vehicles.

Melissa Pexton named State Recovery Controller to lead recovery from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Seroja State Recovery Coordination Group established to manage cyclone recovery efforts Premier Mark McGowan today announced Melissa Pexton has been appointed State Recovery Controller and head of the State Recovery Coordination Group to assist and support communities impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Seroja. Ms Pexton is the Department of Fire and Emergency Services Director Risk, Capability and Analysis, and will lead the whole-of-government approach to recovery efforts. Ms Pexton is also the Executive Officer of the State Emergency Management Committee and has held positions of Deputy Chair and Chair of the SEMC Recovery and Community Engagement Subcommittee.
