By John Heinis/Hudson County View Port Authority Police Officers Anthony Manfredini and Matthew Maiello heard the dog, Scott, yelping and his owner screaming for help yesterday at the PATH station around 1:11 p.m., according to Port Authority police spokeswoman Lenis Valens. As a result, Manfredini halted the escalator while Maiello called in Emergency Service Unit Officers Mark Legic, Andrew Vignapiano and Eric Block who arrived quickly and unbolted the escalator’s claw plate while Manfredini held and comforted the injured Pomeranian. “I spent my life training and caretaking for dogs in the Marine Corps as a K-9 handler and in my personal life. I didn’t have a second thought when it came to cries for help,” Manfredini, who has been a police officer for five years, said in a statement.
