PETALING JAYA: After Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said called for Parliament to reconvene, Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun broke his silence, saying that many critics of the ongoing Emergency were selective in their defence of the Constitution to gain political mileage.
JOHOR BARU: An Umno leader here has backed the proposal by Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said on ways to convene Parliament.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the recommendations showed that Parliament could be convened safely under the new normal.
“Interestingly, the recommendation suggests that the motion concerning support for the prime minister would not be brought up and debated if that is what the government is concerned about.
“I have never seen a more desperate and critical situation than now. I agree and support the view as well the recommendations she has put forward, ” he said in a statement here on Friday (May 28).
