A Bluff family has welcomed its newest addition on New Year’s Day, the first baby born in 2021 at the Emerald Hospital.
Harmony Grace Veale was born at 5.55am on January 1, weighing 4.15kg and measuring 55cm.
Parents Cassandra Wilkins and Tony Veale said the new year’s birth was a complete surprise.
The couple spent New Year’s Eve watching movies at their home and stayed up to see the new year in. Harmony Grace Veale with her parents Cassandra Wilkins and Tony Veale.
Heading to bed at 1.30am, they were woken shortly after when Ms Wilkins’ waters broke at 2.30am.

A young girl was one of two patients hospitalised after a single vehicle crash west of Emerald.
Paramedics assessed five patients after the incident on the Capricorn Hwy, 20km west of Emerald bout 8.20am on Tuesday.
A woman in her 60s and a female child were taken to Emerald Hospital in stable conditions for further assessment, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said. capricorn hwy

Mr Seah is one of 17, Year 4 students based at The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School Rockhampton, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine this week. While this year had presented many challenges, Mr Seah believed his time in Rockhampton had been a fantastic opportunity to experience the unknown. As an international student, I seized the chance to complete my final year here, as I knew it would be enriching going to a regional healthcare setting, he said.
