Public funding for a new stage and renovations at the Embudo Valley Library in Dixon were authorized Dec. 15 by Rio Arriba County at the commissioners meeting.
The $206,000 was originally approved in 2009 for a portable stage but Library board member Shel Neymark said that after looking at the options, a portable stage wasnât the best option for the library.
The portable stage had a higher than expected maintenance cost and required a team of people to set up, Neymark said. The library decided that a permanent outdoor stage would be cheaper and a better fit for the libraryâs goals, and the money left over from building the stage would go to renovating the garage into a functioning room in the community center.
