Limerick was described in the Forbes article as the murder capital of Europe
A Forbes article about Irish tech billionaires Patrick and John Collison has been removed from the US publication s website after being denounced as defamatory and ill advised for its description of the brothers native Limerick.
The profile, by contributor Stephen McBride, introduced it as stab city and continued: Many folks think Ireland is all rolling green hills and five-star golf courses. But in the middle of the Irish countryside is a city called Limerick known as the murder capital of Europe.
RTÉ business journalist, and Limerick native, Petula Martyn, tweeted her disappointment at the article last night and Patrick Collison replied: Not only mistaken about Limerick but the idea of overcoming anything is crazy. We are who we are because we grew up where we did.

BEAUTIFUL images and videos of the city and county have lit up the internet as Limerick people both nationally and internationally responded to a controversial Forbes article.
There was widespread criticism of an article which appeared on the business magazine’s web site last night, which perpetuated a number of false stereotypes of Limerick.
It suggested brothers Patrick and John Collison had “escaped” the city in order to set up their multi-billion euro firm Stripe in the Silicon Valley.
The story, since removed from the Forbes web site, claimed that Limerick is known as Europe s murder capital , with both Patrick and John stepping in to rubbish its contents.
Made up of very experienced dancers from across Ireland, Cairde have garnered nearly 2 million followers on TikTok, while their videos have received nearly 25 million likes.
Now, the group has announced it will perform a dance routine live from the Cliffs of Moher in Clare on Wednesday, which will be beamed onto Good Morning America.
It will also be broadcast live on the monitors in the iconic Times Square in New York.
The Irish Embassy in the US welcomed the news and wrote on Twitter: Cairde at the Cliffs. That will be a genuinely good #StPatricksDay morning across America.

The tradition of a bowl of shamrock being presented to a US president on St Patrick s Day will be continued this year, even though the event will be virtual.
The crystal bowl, which this year was made by Criostal na Rinne in County Waterford, is already at the White House and was delivered there on Friday by Irish embassy staff.
The shamrock bowl will be placed on President Joe Biden s desk during his virtual St Patrick s Day meeting with the Taoiseach Micheál Martin on Wednesday.
Discussions are expected to cover a broad agenda of issues, including the deep ties between the US and Ireland, Covid-19 and shared global challenges, such as climate change.
