BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (FOX 2) - Movie theaters have suffered major revenue losses throughout the pandemic but Emagine Theaters is breathing new life into one local gem with the purchase of the historic Birmingham Theater.
The corn is popping once again at movie theaters in Michigan and optimism is in the air, at least for Paul Glanz. His Emagine Entertainment is adding new theaters to its already impressive empire.

Bedrock, Emagine partner for drive-in movies in Downtown Detroit

DETROIT – A new drive-in movie theater experience is coming to Downtown Detroit.
Bedrock and Emagine have partnered for the Monroe Street Drive-In Powered by Emagine, which will offer drive-in films for $20 per vehicle starting this month.
Beginning with an opening night screening of the 1993 classic
Jurassic Park on January 22, 2021 the state-of-the-art outdoor screen will show family-friendly feature films, right next to Campus Martius Park and downtown’s Woodward shopping district.
Monroe Street Drive-In will operate in partnership with Emagine Entertainment, with showtimes every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 pm, starting Jan. 22. The drive-in experience will feature amenities including interactive lighting, leading AV technology and a modular concessions pavilion serving traditional movie theater concessions. The projection room lights are back up, the popcorn machine is already steaming and a blank screen is ready for movie magic at Emagine Willow Creek Theater in Plymouth.
“We re excited,” said Jake Mueller, director of operations for Emagine Theaters in Minnesota. “A lot of people are looking forward to getting theaters back open.”
After two pandemic-fueled closures in 2020, movie theaters across the state along with other indoor entertainment venues, such as bowling alleys and museums are being allowed to officially open Monday at 25% capacity.
Bars and restaurants will also be allowed to resume indoor dining service at 50% capacity, but with a set closing time of 10 p.m. Gym capacity is capped at 25%, but the maximum capacity has been increased to 150.
